Steve Feng received his B.S. (2011) and MS (2013) in Electrical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Since 2010, Steve has contributed to the UCLA Bio- and Nano-Photonics Laboratory under Professor Aydogan Ozcan (EE/BE departments), starting as a Lab Assistant during his undergraduate studies before continuing his graduate studies under Dr. Ozcan. After graduating with his MS, Steve continued his work in Dr. Ozcan’s lab, starting as a Junior Development Engineer in 2013 and working up to Associate Development Engineer and HHMI Project Mentor in 2014. Steve’s primary responsibilities involve leading computational imaging and mobile development projects for mobile health, environmental sensing, and diagnostic imaging platforms.

Steve’s research interests revolve around image analysis, signal processing, parallel computing, machine learning, computer vision, and mobile health. During his academic career, Steve has developed computational tools for rapid high-throughput image reconstruction, mobile apps for smartphone-based microscopy, and various applications for biomedical image analysis. During his graduate studies, Steve also contributed towards the development of a dual-chamber syringe system for reducing pneumothorax complications during and after CT-guided transthoracic needle biopsies. His work has resulted in 11 peer-reviewed journal publications, 2 patents, and several copyrighted software packages.

Since 2013, Steve also acts as a software engineer consultant to Holomic LLC. After initially transferring a web server and server backend for a mobile-based rapid diagnostic test platform from Professor Ozcan’s UCLA lab, Steve now actively contributes to Android mobile development and server-side support for Holomic’s mobile-based diagnostic test reader platform.
